Service: Logo and Graphics Design

Follow my design story to see what I can do for you!

Step 1 - Let’s talk. I want to understand you and your organization. What is meaningful to you? What elements of your work or life do you want to pull from? Do you already have ideas, branding, a color palette?

It started as an effective visualization device to wrap my head around the complexity of my qualitative research data, and it became a metaphor for the way I approach work.

Incorporating an octopus into my logo made sense - it’s meaningful to me, stands out, shows my style and personality, and offers myriad opportunities for adaptation, creativity and flexibility.

Step 2- Consider the audience and the medium. How to you want to be perceived? Where will the logo appear? What messages do you want to send with the design?

It was important to me that my logo design be unique and that the word “Bricolage” would be readable because accessibility is one of my values. Considering the various style options, I decided that realistic and cartoonish were not going to work, so I focused on stylized and sleek. It also needed to be simple, just one or two colors, so I could change it easily for different backgrounds or greyscale. I also wanted a simple monogram for deliverables where an octopus wouldn’t be welcome.

Developing my logo was a long process of self-discovery. I started tinkering before I really understood what my business personality - my brand - was.

Step 3 - We look for inspiration online and in the real world. What colors, shapes, and design choices appeal to you? Do you like hand-drawn, digital, or something in between? Which elements are the most important to incorporate? Is there anything that’s an absolute “NO”?

AI was useful for brainstorming but none of the images it generated were quite right, even after I tried to customize them.

An online image search helped me narrow down the designs that I liked and provided some shape guidelines.

Step 4 - Design. Feedback. Iteration.

Multiple rounds of drawing and feedback from friends and family led to the foundational shape.

I’ll provide up to 5 options based on your preferences and we’ll discuss how you want to proceed. What about these designs works and what doesn’t land the way you wanted? Are there elements you want to combine or eliminate?

This service includes two rounds of edits based on your feedback, with additional rounds available for purchase.

You will receive a bespoke, handcrafted logo
that was designed to your specifications.

I ultimately developed full octopus logos for light and dark backgrounds, a greyscale octopus logo, a watermark, and a monogram logo, all with and without backgrounds. Having a folder full of options means that it’s easy for me to find the right image for the work.
